In Kings County, pet license fees and donations are an important source for funding essential animal services. When you license your pet, know that you are doing your part to help your local shelter workers care for lost, injured and abused animals.
We are proud to call Kings County Animal Services an official Safe&Happy Partner. We donate 20% of every product sale (designer tags, collars and leashes) to Kings County Animal Services in an effort to provide additional funding for the community’s vulnerable animals and the staff that serves them. They are doing some pretty amazing things for local animals in need. Read on to learn more about this great organization!

Here’s what’s been going on at Kings County Animal Services.
What is something you are really proud of as an organization? Our shelter is extremely proud of our community programs.
What makes your organization unique? We deal with an array of animals at our shelter. We’ve had goats, cows, horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, etc. We’ve even had a couple of emus.
What is a program that you run that is important for people to know about? There are several programs that people should know about:
- The shelter offers a low cost spay and neuter program for cats and dogs. To make an appointment visit: Click here to make an appointment.
- Every Friday the shelter’s community pet pantry is open to the public. For more information visit: click here.
- Your pet can be microchipped at our facility for only $10! All you have to do is make an appointment.
Can you share a story of a specific pet you’ve helped? On July 23, 2021, we received a call for a puppy (who we later named Tule) who had ended up in the river and struggled to stay afloat. Luckily there were two fishermen in the area, and they were able to pull her out of the river and wrap her in a blanket until we arrived on the scene. Unfortunately, one vet visit later, we learned she had two broken legs. The shelter reached out to a local rescue, Kings SPCA, to see if they could assist us in getting this little girl medical treatment. With Kings SPCA’s help, we were able to fundraise enough to get her the surgery she needed. After several months Tule was fully recovered and went on to her forever home.
How can people help or volunteer? If you are interested in helping or volunteering please fill out one of our volunteer applications volunteer applications. We are always in need of volunteers to help clean kennels, walk dogs, foster, etc.
If someone wants to donate pet supplies, what items are needed most? The shelter can always use blankets, towels, pet toys, and food donations.
What does the day of a shelter worker/volunteer normally look like? Mornings are busy with cleaning and feeding. After morning cleaning, the fun begins – play groups and dog socializing.
What should people know before adopting a pet? Make sure you are ready. Pets are a great joy but are also a great responsibility.
What is your best advice for pet owners? Pet identification is extremely important. Your dog should always have a collar and ID tag on. Simply having your contact number on your dog’s tag could save your pet a trip to the shelter. Luckily if you license your pet with us you will get a really awesome tag to go on your dog’s collar that will help get them home if they get lost.
What is an easy way for community members to help support your organization? The shelter always needs volunteers to help us with daily tasks like cleaning, socializing, etc. You can also help by fostering! We are always in need of fosters for adult dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens.
